Has this love month business got you down in the dumps, darling?
I’ve been there, and I recently might have found myself back there, despite my best efforts. Love is a many confusing thing and these days I feel more and more stuck in a John Hughes movie than I would otherwise like to be (which says a lot, because I love John Hughes). Unrequited love may hurt, but there are ways of coping. Music is my absolute favourite method.
So I made a little mixtape to help soothe a lonely (or heartbroken) soul, complete with tasty little sonic morcels to (hopefully) hit the spot and a little dose of eighties heartbreak crooning, naturally and for good measure.
It’s like what is famously said in Sixteen Candles: “That’s why they call them crushes. If they were easy, they’d call them something else.”
Put this on. Wallow if you need to. Write down what’s going on in your head (that really helps). Look at some old photos of yourself. Save your favourites. Find a special place. Remember who you were and how much you’ve grown.
Most importantly, give yourself love.
You’ll be just fine.
