I’ve been on tumblr//the ~blogosphere~ for a while now, and I find myself constantly inspired by the lovely ladies/guys around me! Since this month’s theme is Crushes, what better time to obsess over my style crushes and share some of my favourites and their websites for you to see/follow/obsess over also!

1. Ellie

ellie

Ellie is the brilliant mind behind the blog RoseAndVintage. I’ve been following her from the beginning, and we actually met when I went to England two summers ago! She is always put together–her layering of clothes is STUNNING and truly unrivaled. She also accessorizes every look amazingly–from a pair of glasses, to a flowercrown, to a brooch, Ellie is always on top of every tiny aspect of her look.

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

E: I think other bloggers and Internet people really inspire me, Mayagooforthequainthearted**, opheliahorton, where-is-frank, and cultkid, but also my friends – I love what people I know wear so it’s nice to get some daily inspiration at college or out on the weekends

**forthequainthearted AKA Hollie is actually interviewed below! Go to 5 to see her answers for the same questions!

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

E: That’s a hard one – I have to say Vivienne Westwood as she is my all round idol, but Miuccia Prada too because both Prada and Miu Miu are dreamlike.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?11006138_986586151370143_2109254481_n

E: Right now it’s a glittery polo neck that I bought for £2! I love glitter right now! (see right)

M: How would you describe your style?

E: 70s teen meets 80s wannabe

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been wanting lately?

E: I always want fluffy faux fur coats – one in every colour would be my dream!!!

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

E: The 90s resurgence is so good right now! I’m loving layering necklaces and plaid!

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

E: Vintage shops! I love Beyond Retro, though charity shops are so great too!

You can find Ellie on her Blogger, RoseandVintage,  her instagram, and her tumblr. And if you really like her clothes, she sells them on etsy

2. Eryn

eryn

Eryn was one of my first internet friends! She messaged me on my blogspot and we became “pen pals” without really sending many letters, but skyping every now and then, and keeping in touch via facebook messanger. Really modern-day pen pals… We still haven’t met, but she is one of my best friends! She’s well known on tumblr for her incredible artwork, but she also dresses in a very inspiring, minimalistic, way that I really admire.

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

E: I’m always really inspired by the cool people I see when I’m out and about, my friends, and my impossibly stylish older cousin. Tumblrs/bloggers that particularly inspire me are lordbape, lullabysounds, mayagoo, boogerbrie and idressmyselff. Also currently influenced by Annie Larson, Anna Karina, Natalia Kills, Joan Mitchell, Amanda Jasnowski, FKA Twigs, Carla McRae, Jeanne Damas, Malin Gabriella Nordin, and old ladies on public transit.

I’d also say myself, in a way. What I put on my body feels like an extension of my art, and definitely a way to realize the different facets of myself and claim my power.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

E: I haven’t really payed attention to designers since I was 15, but I still love Comme des Garçons, The Row, and Rachel Antonoff.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

E: Right now I’m obsessed with the black Lulu crop top from American Apparel (mostly because I feel good in it – anything with an open back gets an A+ in my books), and a vintage black and white wool plaid skirt I recently bought (it’s just a beautiful piece, and the deal is sweetened because it was a cheap, lucky find). My regular go-to favourites would be my black turtleneck, black cropped sweater, blue jeans, grey gingham mini skirt, leather jacket and black tent dress, all of which I wear a lot.

M: How would you describe your style?

E: ‘Minimalist chaos’ – or, as someone on tumblr once said, ‘a groovy 90’s tv lawyer’.

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been wanting lately?

E: Yes! The Hex Tote Bag from Topshop. It’s really nice and seems like a good size for lugging art supplies and cameras around.

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

E: Capri-length pants with tall leather boots, ribbed turtlenecks under plaid skirts & pinafores, fuzzy sweaters/jackets.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

E: Mostly secondhand stores and some local boutiques, as well as standard places such as Topshop and American Apparel. I also wear a lot of clothes that used to belong to my cousin, mom, and grandmother. I even have a beautiful pink coat that was my great-grandmother’s. Lots of stylish ladies in my family!

Eryn has a really great tumblr and instagram that you should follow!

3. Sinéad

sinead

Sinéad is a master of mixing pastels. She layers about 100 pastel colours, including her hair that all mesh in a beautifully pale rainbow. A fellow TPZer, I’ve gotten to know Sinéad over facebook, and every time I see her make a photo post, I get excited. Sinéad is one to edit her photos in really cool ways, just looking through her profile pictures I felt literal tears of joy well up in my eyes from sheer inspiration. The left bottommost photo is an example of excellent editing to enhance her ~look~…like…honestly…speechless

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

S: I guess its largely influenced by things like manga (an obsession of mine that started when I was 11) and Harajuku street style; I really love styles like fairy-kei combined with preppy vintage stuff. One fashion blogger that I’ve always idolised style-wise is Marlena; she is a darling and I’ve always aspired to achieve something like her effortless-seeming punky-but-sweet looks for myself. ~

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

S: It’s definitely between Meadham Kirchhoff and Jeremy Scott (the Jeremy Scott outfits in 2NE1’s ‘Happy’ music video are to DIE for); but I also like some of the really preppy Chanel stuff.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

S: Thats definitely a tricky one, but if I had to choose one at the moment it would be this sweatshirt from SYNDROME Store. I love the bold design, its so cute and silly! And its also pretty much one of the only things I can realistically wear in winter, because its warm as well as adorable ~

M: How would you describe your style?

S: Maybe ‘Cynical Sugar Princess’ is fitting for me – sweet and pastel, but also entirely unimpressed with day-to-day nonsense.

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been wanting lately?

S: I’ve been in love with this dress for quite a while now, but STILL haven’t bought it yet – I feel like I will have to soon or I might just cry. Its so precious and delicate, it seems like putting it on would automatically make you feel like a fairy princess or something.

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

S: At the moment I actually really like all the semi-minimalistic/clean ‘pastels/plants/grids’ stuff thats hovering around the internet – like Dom Sebastian’s work in particular, and also INU INU, which is the sweetest online shop and I just want to own everything they sell.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

S: My go-to places to buy clothes from tend to be charity shops, ASOS, and Topshop; although recently I found the super cute SYNDROME Store, which I’m a little obsessed with for sure!

You can find Sinéad on instagram, and you should also check out her art tumblr (her art is very similar to her style, check it out and you’ll see what I mean)!

4. Tessa

tessa

Tessa is another person I’ve followed forever! Since before I joined TPZ, her blog has been in my bookmarks bar. She is a huge supporter of me and I am a huge supporter of her, since the beginning! Recently, Tessa went though a total change: she threw out basically her whole closet (donated it, I assume), and started pretty much from scratch. The results are…incredible (to say the least!) Tessa is masterful not only at pattern and colour mixing, but also pairing an amazing outfit, with amazing makeup. She really knows how to round out a look with an incredible complimentary look through makeup.

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

T: Dang, this is such a difficult question, because there is so many things that inspire me! My biggest inspos would have to be John Waters movies, hobos, Pheobe Buffay, Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion, Duckie Dale from Pretty in Pink, Seth Bogart’s artwork (Wacky Wacko), the 1960’s London scene, DI$COUNT UNIVER$E, Meadham Kirchhoff, SpookypukeHELIBELLS/Sassy World, Secret Hipster, Girl with the Flower, the Advanced Style documentary/blog, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, pastel colors, retro wallpaper, vintage postcards, Jean-Luc Goddard films, Parisian pastries, glitter, plastic food, 90s Drew Barrymore, Mac Demarco and his band, Clerks, donuts with sprinkles, and basically anything else on the planet. I know this seems like a list of just random things I like, but really all of it influences what I wear daily.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

T: I hate this question! I always feel like I know who my fav designer is, but I always come to a blank. I can’t say that I have one favorite honestly… My top favs are: DI$COUNT UNIVER$E, Betsey Johnson, Thom Browne, Prada, Meadham Kirchhoff, Ashish Gupta and oh gosh, so many more.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

T: I’ve never thought about this! Okay my favorite item is this old, beat up grey sweater that I stole from my mom. It’s not really cute, and it’s not really ugly, but it’s so comfortable. I couldn’t live without this sweater, though.

M: How would you describe your style?

T: Oh man, something like eccentric trashcan or sophisticated 12 year old.

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been looking for or coveting lately?

T: Um, only everything!!  I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect grey shirt, actually. It has to be a soft-ish fabric, with no texture, long sleeve, and a high low cut. I found a perfect one at Urban Outfitters, but it was way too expensive (and I don’t shop there anymore)! 🙁 I’m also looking for a vintage metallic jumpsuit in either silver or bronze (like the ones Auntie Mame wears), a Wacky Wacko t-shirt or dress, anything Pee Wee Herman or Batman related…

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

T: I’m actually terribly in love with most of the current trends right now. Usually I could care less, but this is going to be a great year for fashion. Most of the trends I’m really into are makeup related. For example, I love the Twiggy-esque eye makeup but done in a brown pallette, odd-colored lipsticks, WHITE EYELINER (the inner 7th grader in me is screaming), and of course, the cat-eye liner. As for fashion, I love the platform sandals, the weird draping (I have no idea how else to describe it…kind of Grecian draping maybe?), the fitted suits in bright colors of funky prints, and I’m probably forgetting a lot more, haha. Oh! The Seventies trends are coming back. I find this really interesting, but I can’t decide if I like it or not… Maybe it’s because I’m so in love with actual clothing from the 70’s and I don’t like the mock-ups? I don’t know! Who does know? Fashion is a really weird thing.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

E: Everywhere! I mainly shop at thrift stores, garage sales, and vintage shops. I’m guilty of loving Forever21, though. I also love Boo Hoo, Missguided, Nordstrom, Charlotte Russe, Buffalo Exchange, and a million other places. I don’t shop at those places very often, but when I do I have no self control and I get absolutely everything in sight (much like the main character in Confessions of a Shopaholic, ahaha)!

You can (and should), follow Tessa’s blog, tumblr, and instagram. And if you love her clothes like I do, she’s selling them here! Also check out her shops Facebook page

5. Hollie

hollie

Hollie was one of the first bloggers I ever followed. She’s inspired me so much from then until now and I’ve watched her style progress so much!  I love everything Hollie wears, and all the ways she combines them. She’s got a sort-of refined grunge look that I am so into right now. Oversized “androgynous” stuff is totally my look atm, and it works so well for Hollie! Also, I think I subconsciously cut my hair just like hers…clearly so inspired it’s become a subconscious obsession.

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

H: It used to be a lot more traceable – I’d emulate dressing like something/someone from tumblr then go through a phase of that. However, once I started sixth form I had to become a lot lazier, it’s all a jumble now really and just a combination of a lot of small influences, I sometimes just find one piece I like on ASOS and then obsess over finding others to match it.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

H: I could watch Alexander McQueen shows all day and other than that it changes season to season!

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

H: Black turtlenecks make me feel weirdly safe (no idea why), so I’ll always go back to one of those that I have.

M: How would you describe your style?

H:I just did an online quiz and it told me ‘eclectic’. I’d settle for that but I’d also go for something that encompasses my pattern congruency/geometry infatuation more.

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been looking for or coveting lately?

H: I really want some ‘& other stories’ shoes, or a jumper or something. I’ve fallen in love with the whole shop and pay day cant come soon enough!!

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

H: Everyone has beautiful long plaits. It is making me regret cutting my hair really short. Embroidery on sheer fabric is also really cool (a la the recent two Valentino seasons and the brand ‘for love and lemons‘)

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

E: ASOS! I unfortunately never go shopping in real shops any more – I work most weekends so I don’t get much of a chance.

I highly suggest you check out Hollies blog, and instagram!

6. Eline

tumblr_mhe3a0typg1qb73ioo1_500 copy copy

Eline is someone I’ve only pretty recently discovered via tumblr…but…I…am..in…love! Eline is bold, brave, and unafraif of layering tons of different colours. She makes them work so well though She puts green, orange, and yellow together in a way I would never think would work, ad yet…it absolutely does! She wears bold, bright colours with no fear and I LOVE that confidence. She CONSTANTLY inspires me and has definitely influenced my recent push to wear more interesting makeup. Because not only does she compile amazing outfits every day full of colour, confidence, and layering, she also always has an AMAZING makeup look to go along with it! I am enthralled…I could look through her tumblr for ages.

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

E: Honestly? Mostly just colour combinations and silhouettes! On my tumblr I have the tags ‘silhouettes’ & ‘colours’ I frequently revisit for inspiration. I could also just read about a colour combo in a book, or see nice colour-combos on inanimate objects and immediately shed my clothes and try to emulate it. My friends are a big inspiration for me as well (on all life-matters but also on clothing!). I am most definitely consciously and subconsciously influenced by certain tumblr styles too, I think that’s where I got my new-found love for more pants, button down shirts, et al! But artists or runway fashion comes to me more like watered down via tumblr (though often times I suspect the designers bring watered down tumblr aesthetics though; look at Meadham Kirchoff, there’s no doubt about it he got his inspiration online — he succeeded in transcending that though, whereas most designers fail on that part.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

E: I do not, I used to like a lot of them but never 100%. I’ve a stopped following fashion for years now too because the industry in general had a negative affect on me & not too longer after seemingly most collections got dull by playing safe so I’ve completely lost interest, except for some who I periodically check but they’ve disappointed (or bored?) Me as well for the most part.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

E: I love all my clothes!! What a cruel question ;,D. But I guess I currently do. It is a crop top set one of my best friends of all time.
I love wearing clothes made by my friends. During a busy time in my life where I can’t see them often, it’s a consolation to wear. When I’m wearing their clothes a part of them stays with me.

M: How would you describe your style?

E: I don’t really have an interest in describing my style; I just kinda work with what I have and what I am feeling. It’s not strictly this or that, but it’s most definitely always colourful (although I’m finally after a decade getting into black again… but mostly only paired with bright colours though!).

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been looking for or coveting lately?

E: Yes yes yes yes yes. I have been really desperate to get tabi boots by Martin Margiela. They seem like a sound investment (compared to my other dream shoes which are most definitely ankle-braking) and are periodically on sale. Coincidentally I had a dream that I got hired at a shoe shop that had the most exquisite pairs in blue and orange, colours I’d never seen before and love dearly! I worked hard all-throughout the dream to be able to afford them but woke up before I could ever even try them on. So sad.

I also would really love to own Walter Van Beirendonck’s ladybug skirt suit because I’m pretty much obsessed with ladybirds! I saw the top for a really reasonable price on eBay but I was too broke to get it, it still pains me so.
I’m also pretty obsessed with the fall Comme des Garçons 2012 collection, because it looks like doll’s clothes and I love the silhouettes so much and I love how the seams are on the outside; I have so much feelings about it. One day I’d like to at least own one of those coats.

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

E: No, not really. Not that I am aware of right now anyway. I don’t consciously follow many trend anymore.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

E: Second hand! I also get a lot of clothes from friends.

Check out Eline’s outfit blog, inspiration tumblr, and instagram! If you covet her clothes like I do, she sells them here too!

7. Justine

justine

I actually met Justine when I went to the Rookie meetup in San Francisco a few years ago. I met a lot of people there, and  later realized, when I joined TPZ that I knew her, she wasn’t just another internet stranger! After that weird coincidence I’ve been following her on all social media sites, because she is THE coolest. A fellow art student in the Bay Area (until we went off to college), I liked seeing how our lives were similar and different. Justine’s style is incredible; every time there is a new instagram post I get pumped to see her newest creation. All the drawn on shirts pictured as well as the painted (taped?) jacket, were made by Justine, which is sooo sick. Also, I gotta mention the way she always finds art she goes with…..like….she is a national treasure. <3_<3

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

J: A lot of the art phases I go through coincide with the things I wear during that period of time… when I was into art that focused on the usage of primary colors, that’s what I would always find myself wearing. When I was really big on ceramic art I would try to make good texture combinations through some of my outfits, and when I was obsessed with 20th century Spanish art I would always wear earth browns and jewel tones, and so on.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

J: I’m not quite up to date with the latest fashion but i’ve always been fond of old Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, and Jil Sander. I also really like what Eckhaus Latta and 69 Worldwide are doing right now, both with their style of clothing and because most of their garments are very gender fluid.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

J: I love each and every one of the baseball caps I own. They don’t look very good on me but i’m in love with the shape and how snug they feel when I wear them. I do have a few favorites though; a denim cap with a golden retriever patch on it, my all white “Goddess Bless” cap I bought from artist Aidan Koch, a purple & brown suede cap with a drawing of a sheep in puffy paint by artist Lauren Poor, and a white and pink cap from Blood Orange’s show in New York City.

M: How would you describe your style?

J: Middle-Aged Kindergarten Art Teacher Who Loves To Knit Her Clothes

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been looking for or coveting lately?

J: There is this soft-looking coat I found online that is entirely covered in cow print, and it is really amazing…

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

J: I wouldn’t consider it a trend but lately I am dressing way more androgynous than I used to.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

J: Salvation Army, The GAP, and YARD666SALE.

Follow Justine on her tumblr, art tumblr, and instagram

8. Sophie

sophie

Sophie is someone I’ve followed on tumblr for ages, again, watching that style develop thru time. Funnily enough, I just found out she goes to college with one of my best friends from high school, just a random, fun coincidental fact. Sophie has got the baseball cap look DOWN pat. Like it’s pretty incredible. Also, her selfies are very incredible. I really love how versitle her style is though. Like in one post it’s a basecall cap and converse, little makeup, and the next it’s a lacy top with a shoulder showing sweater and dark lipstick. She can pull off ANY look, and she does!

M: Who or what inspires what you wear? Who are YOUR style crushes!

S: Right now my style is pretty driven by art. I’ve been looking at a lot Matisse’s cutouts, early 20th century nudes by artists like Schiele and Chagall. I listen to a lot of shoegaze so I would like to think I emulate all of the dreamy guitar rifts somehow in what I wear. I dress for the environment I’m in right now which is an academic one. I dress for the characters I read and the research I want to do in the future. Everything is grounded in my politics and agenda, exiting the space and confines of gender and oscillating between androgyny and hyper-femininity.

I really like what St Vincent is doing in terms of making her art “post-gender” and not conforming to “gender absolutism”. In the context of clothing meaning that your expression of gender is detached and irrelevant to what you wear. I like looking at clothing as something super theoretical, which I guess inspires me to dress with certain things in mind.

M: Do you have a favourite designer?

S: I really love what they’re doing over at V FILES right now; their shows are really important way to gage new talent. I like eckhaus latta, zero and maria cornejo, a lot of what goes on in London, Commes Des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Vejas, Degen NYC. I’m mostly interested in design teams more focused on concept than necessarily the “perfectly cut dress”. I don’t necessarily look at wearability when I look at clothing. I want to follow designers who are challenging the status quo, turning a super classist industry and queering it on its head, making space for QTPOC people.

M: Do you have a favourite item of clothing? If so why?

S:  I recently got this 90’s club kid embroidered denim jacket that says “Tom” on the back at a thrift store near where I go to school. I think I like it purely for its aesthetic value; also I want a bf named Tom who will make me a jacket. He can be my rave bae. I also love this Lonely Hearts bra I got super on sale from opening ceremony for myself for Christmas. It makes me feel like an ~ethereal dominatrix~.

M: How would you describe your style?

S: Academic Twee Goth

M: Is there a particular item of clothing that you’ve been looking for or coveting lately?

S: A black lab coat, scientist goth vibes is what I have to say to that. I have been threatening to buy a Zana Bayne piece for about a year so that too.

M: Is there a style or trend you’re into right now?

S: It’s winter and really cold so just wearing stuff that is really soft and a little minimalistic. I love a lot of what people are making/wearing on tumblr, lots of really nice shapes and Matisse-style prints. Good stuff.

M: Where do you buy most of your clothes? Do you have any favourite shops?

J:  Thrift stores, Vintage Stores, Uniqlo and Gap for basics, end of the season sales at ~nice stores~ but mostly for lingerie.

You can find Sophie on tumblr, and instagram

I hope you all feel inspired by these babes like I do! They all have different looks that inspire me in different ways, and I love each and every one of their styles. Make sure you check out their social media sites and comment your style crushes! I love hearing about new people to be inspired by. Check out my tumblr for more inspiring people!!
