Hey Pulp Babes!
Your friendly beauty editor here with some halloween makeup tutorials you guys requested by yours truly, as well as some links to my all time favorites from makeup gurus!
First we have requested looks, starting with a generic “Tim Burton” character
This one is pretty easy, it’s just about using greys, taupes, and purples in order to heavily contour your eyes and cheeks. It really helps to have a picture of Victor from the Corpse Bride up for reference because I think he’s the most generic-looking character if that makes sense.
If you’re a POC or you have tanner skin than I do, I suggest using ashy browns and hazy purples in order to do your contouring since the grey will just stand out against your skin rather than give the “sunken in” appearance. Also make sure your brow color matches your hair color/wig!
PS: Don’t forget to make lots of silly sad faces in order to find the natural contours of your face!
Next up is a rocky horror look requested by a one of our readers. I decided to do Colombia, since she’s the character I think I look the most like!
For any rocky horror look, covering eyebrows is usually a must. Goldiestarlings tutorials on how to cover eyebrows are amazingly helpful!
Here’s a link to the best one using prosaide:
I used the glue stick/heavy powder method which you can find plenty of tutorials on, and it didn’t really work the best for me but I didn’t have time to get prosaide unfortunately!
Note: In order to get the shimmer look over my brows I used Benefits “Watts up” highlighter stick and then a gold shimmer shadow from Kat Von D…you know me and my Kat Von D palettes
Hint: Make lots of silly, sexy faces and also scare your friends when you have no eyebrows!
Lastly, a few of you requested a creepy mermaid. I thought I had the pictures saved from when I did a creepy mermaid/siren look a while ago, but alas I only have the finished product 🙁
But here are the pictures for inspiration, if needed
I mainly used Kat Von D’s shade shifter eyeshadow (which I’ve used in previous tutorials.)
I love it for Mermaid or water creature makeups because it kind of matches the iridescent quality that scales have.
Now for my all time favorite tutorials for Halloween makeup!
First is my favorite SFX channel, Kiana Jones SFX:
She’s pretty young and new in the field but she loves to take inspiration from actual medical photos and procedures rather than like horror movie makeups. I find a lot of what she does really fascinating and she’s very helpful for beginners with imaginative uses for things like cotton buds when you don’t have special imitation tendons!
Next is the best body paint channel, Madeyewlook:
I’m sure you guys have seen Lex all around the web, but just watch her videos sometime and you’ll see why she’s so loved. She’s an insanely talented body painter and she’s also pretty dang funny. She’s very very helpful with all kinds of experience levels and will usually answer any question you have! She also has a secondary channel for beauty makeups called Madeyewlooktwice
Last but not least is one of my favorite channels in general, grav3yardgirl:
Bunny (yes that is legally her real name) is pretty popular on Tumblr (as far as I’ve seen), just watch her videos to find out why! She’s very much like myself: both pretty strange, can sometimes annoy people with our high levels of activity, we love anything old and creepy and slightly damaged. She started out as a paranormal channel, then more of a fashion channel, and now she really just listens to the community as far as what they’d like to see more of but she always sticks to what she loves best: creepy things! She started doing some halloween makeup tutorials a few years ago and they’re super beginner friendly because Bunny is in no way a professional makeup artist, and she uses mainly products you can find easily at your local Sephora, Ulta, or drugstore!
Bunny is definitely one of my favorite channels for inspiration because we completely think alike, i.e. when she bought a Benefit cheek/lip tint she wanted to use it only on the inside of her lips bc she wanted to get the “thirst quenched vampire look” and that is most definitely what I first thought of when I bought a lip tint/stain. She also does some hair tutorials and her “get ready with me” videos are a great inspiration!
Also yes, that is her natural eye color (it’s insane).
A final note to you all:
-Most of the makeup I used (actually all of it) can be removed very easily using my #1 beauty secret: Vaseline! Fun fact, it’s also Tyra Banks’ favorite beauty secret as well! It will take off even the most stubborn of eye makeup and just wipe away the makeup after you apply the vaseline, but leave the vaseline residue on; it’s super good for your skin!
Anyway, have a safe, fun, and very very spooky Halloween!
