Ruby The RabbitFoot’s music is my latest music obsession and all around muse. I honestly don’t know how I went so long without hearing their tunes. It’s the soundtrack that your life NEEDS. I could seriously blast any song and immediately feel inspired and have my mood lifted. It’s magic to my ears. So I was super stoked when I was able to talk to Ruby the RabbitFoot about a TON of thangs, there was just so much to talk about! Thanks to Ruby the RabbitFoot for her visual artwork! Images featured are behind the scenes photos from Ruby The RabbitFoot’s music video shoot, directed by Natalie Neal.

Thanks so much for talking to us! How would you describe yourself and your music?  As a slow unfolding.

What’s an average day in your life? If I’m at home I’ll wake up and have a little coffee, a little exercise, write a little, sing a little, try to make a little money. I like to go for walks. It’s baby steps.11096392_809147465825583_5731164169610818643_o

How did your interest in music first begin? That’s hard to say. I think I was born this way.

When do you believe you realized that performing was what you wanted to do? Performing is not something I thought about until very recently in my life. I know I want to write songs and sing them but  performing is a whole different animal that just came with the territory. I’d love to become a great performer. I guess I’ll see how that develops over time.

What I’ve observed that I find interesting is how some musicians struggle with is finding not only an audience but even places to play! As a musician yourself, what do you think a common struggle in the music scene is? I think musicians mostly struggle with the money. You can always go out and play to someone. People seem to appreciate live music but it’s how are you gonna get there, what’s for shelter, what’s for dinner, can I afford to go out and sing my song? That’s the struggle.  I go about it the best I can.

Do you remember your first performance? Tell us about it! It was an open mic  on St. Simons Island, GA and it was a really quiet summer night. This guy fell out of his chair during my song and I had to keep singing cause once I start laughing it’s all over. I rode my bike to the beach afterwards.ruby5

What is your strangest/funniest performance memory? I feel like something strange happens at every show! Like the other night I was in Alabama and during one of our songs I saw this couple walk in from the back and they had a photographer and a light with them. They started taking engagement or prom pictures or something and my drummer and I were the background of some formal family photo haha! I was like “what is happening right now?”

Oh my god, how random haha! What do you now know that wish you knew when you were first starting out with music? Nobody really knows what they are doing and there are no rules. You can’t compare yourself to others.

Besides making great music, you also create amazing pieces of artwork! When did you first begin creating art? When I was about 15 or 16.

Who are some influences when it comes to your artwork? I really wish I had some names to drop. I’m easily influenced, especially by tasteful uses of color.

When did you develop your own style? To be honest, I feel like I’ve just recently developed my own style just a few months ago.

Well, it’s a GREAT style! How often are you creating new pieces? As often as possible. Sometimes I feel guilty working on them because I know I have so much other work to do but I feel like the completion of a piece give me such an energy boost.

Who / what are some of your biggest influences? Mariah Carey, hip hop, rnb, and country music. Mostly from 1994-2005 it seems.

Those are the best. By the way, can I say I LOVE your fashion! What/ who would you say are your biggest style inspos? Andre 300, my friend Chelsie Deegan, also Natalie Neal. I basically jacked her haircut.

Natalie Neal is thee coolest. Okay, so here at The Pulp Zine we have a segment of “Speed Round” questions that I would love do with you! Okay…so coffee or tea? Coffee!

Favorite sweets? Key Lime Pie

Go – to karaoke song? I’m actually really shy at karaoke. I’d say “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly?

Favorite season? Spring.

Fav movie? I don’t play favorites.

Top pick lipstick? NYX matte lipstick. Shade: Eden.

Vintage or brand new? Vintage.

LA or NY? LA!

Tattoos or piercings? Tattoos.

Favorite lyric or quote? What kind of fuckery is this? – Amy Winehouse
